Sorry mate, wishbones fault for getting me hyped up.

Student is not classed as unemployed, just lazy.

But Rod we all know that you'll be back in work quick to finance that Dodge Ram...

Students are fine as long as they have the intelligence to go to college. For the last 10 years the gov't has been encouraging everybody to go to uni regardless. That's why we have no tradesmen or apprentices anymore. They're all at uni doing IT or business studies or other useless cr*p (media studies anyone? ).. Great if you're a London bank needing to be told to 'switch it off and on again' Not so great if you need some plumbing or carpentry doing..

          Rob.

I'm not on the dole!! Have no need for it at the moment whatsoever.

If i get hard up for pennies i can flip burgers to cover the expenses with the training!

Anything would be worth doing to complete the courses im doing!

            Get my own buisness!!!

              Damn right!!

An OI! Im doing I.T courses!!

Personally i feel im better off doing them now then at 17 at college. (not that they are available)

But it really is through more of a refined thought process thats landed me here rather then just "dont fancy doin' histoy"

I want to complete the courses an get the qualifications they offer!

At school i had no idea what i wanted to be. I didn't go to college partly because i had no idea what i wanted to do an couldn't make up my mind on enough subjects to be able to go.. for free at least!

Anyway im sure my film studies degree will be useful!

                    Rod,

I'm 35 and still don't know what I really want to do. Most people I know don't either..

When I was at school / college in the late 80's early 90's Everybody was pushed into IT. A few years later I knew so many qualified IT people who were flipping burgers / doing pub work etc.. However if you needed a decent plumber / electrician / plasterer / builder etc then you had no chance. Maybe why the poles etc moved in and cleaned up ?

If you've got a definite plan then brilliant - good luck.. I just hope there's work at the end of the tunnel for you.

I thought you was doing plumbing btw ?

                    Rob.

I've never had that problem as such. Granted, I've had to diverge and adapt big style over the years, but I'm still relative to my field of choice, mostly.

But Matt I've got a feeling you're 'old school' and can actually do DOS stuff etc even though it's obsolete to most businesses. (We have 200 grand lasers at work that still run on DOS and ISA cards etc. Most IT kids wouldn't have a chance. - they seem to run off the 'flow chart' mentality much like when you phone up an indian help line.

As billy connelly said, "I wanted to be a welder but joined the queue"

Actually, I'm still pretty close to the field I started out in 25 years ago.

you can build in the snow....just ask the eskimos. they build in the snow using...erm....snow!

you're dead right though. thing is, this current slow down gives the lazy shits more incentive, because if somebody who is genuinely looking for work can't get a job, they jump on that and come out with the same excuses. to get the dole money you have to prove you've done 3 job hunts a week! that can be defined as 1. opening local paper - no work for me. 2. looked on internet - no work for me and 3. asked next door neighbour if there's any jobs going down his place. that's it! that would constitue a week's worth of job seeking! makes me laugh.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...
