  • Insurance? How?

    RANT WARNING
My son has comandeered (is that spelt right?) my Saab now that he hasn,t got a company car . He,s always loved it and used any excuse to drive it. So he is now going to take over the running expences.
Just one small problem, trying to get insurance quotes that dont look like telephone numbers. You would probably think by this he,s a spotty faced kid. Far from it he.s 29 and has a good job at Warwick University. His problem is that ever since he was 19/20 he has had a company car.So his insurance quotes are running between £800 and £4000+ Not bad for a car that has a forecourt value of £2000 max.
A lot of Insurance companies say "we dont count no claims earned in a company vehicle" So why ask about it in the first place! With the mileage he used to clock up they should double the no claims not discount it.
It totaly pi$$es me of at the excuses the insurance companies use to put up the premium.
Have you noticed that now you have to pay for windscreen cover! It used to come free with fully comp . It has been an extra on a lot of the proposal forms my son has filled in.The same with legal cover and a lot of other things that used to be included on a policy. So check yours and see what they,ve sneaked off with. They might not have put the price up very much. Thats noticable. You just dont get the cover you think you are getting. Thats dispicable.
Rant over: I,ll be a good boy now
I've taken a vow of poverty To anoy me send money

Talking of insurance !!! I am fully comp with my surf but am not covered for theft. The reason being is that i cannot find out what model No my immobilisor is. I have asked if i can take it to a nominated garage of their choice so they can try it and prove that it works but they said no they must have the model No. My wife has a Merc worth twice what my surf is and more nickable but does not have an immobilisor fitted , she is with the same insurance company and yet does not require one , all to do with imports they tell me !

      Since you asked it's "commandeered".

Make the model No' up. You will get a discount on your insurance.
If it gets nicked they will refuse to pay you if it's recovered and they clock the alarm is different. In the meantime you'll be saving money on the premium.

I presume you've tried the comparison sites...

Try a decent broker like Adrian Flux or Lifesure and they may be able to find a good deal. £800 isn't that much. I used to pay that on my surf, but that's an import, I live in a scummy bit of London and I park on the street, so that's probably why....

Since you asked, there are about 18 spelling mistakes, a few punctuation errors and some grammatical errors in your post.

As has been said before, try all 3 of the bigger comparison sites, Adrian Flux and see if there's a specialist Saab insurer (via an owners' club). And like Sancho said, £800 isn't much for insurance nowadays.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

post a picture of the immobiliser fob and between us someone will probably be able to have a good go at identifying it, but to get any insurance discount you'll have to provide the fitting certificate which would have the model no. on anyway.

Any autospark should be able to inspect the installation and issue a new certificate for it, but to be honest it'll probably be quicker for them and therefore cheaper for you to have them cut it out and install a new one.

I am happy with the company i am with - Direct Line , and my insurance fully comp is £304.00 with b/down cover and hire car should the need arise. but at the moment theft is not covered within the fully comp, and yes i know theoretically i am not fully comp. If i knew how to download pictures from my pc to here i would attatche them.

                    insurance

Search for a company called IBUYECO they will take a company car and give NCD. You just need a letter from your fleet manager saying you have had a company car for X number of years and had no claims and send it to them.

I got about 5 years from my company car when I retired and bought the surf.
                    regards John
