in all my years of dyno testing engines ive only ever had four engines blow up on me,one was quite extreme,a main bearing cap shot throught the block and bounced around the test cell and the rest just kinda stalled and seized.

I once saw the after effects of a rod letting go on an Escort rally car engine (Pinto). The new owner had been told not to exceed 7000 rpm 'cos the bottom end wasn't balanced. First event, the red mist descended and he lasted about half a stage. The guy who had just sold the car got it back to rebuild - couldn't work on it for laughing

I like the way 2 guys in 1st clip try to pick up a piece of big end cap which must be near red hot and they both drop it in about a second flat !! Did they think the engine would be cold after being run that hard on a dyno .

I had a rod go through the block of my Vauxhall Chavette van back in the eighties, on the M4 just before the off ramp into Reading (Basingstoke road).
It kept running as long as I kept the revs up and I made it as far as Whitley wood lane.

I doubt if it could do it these days Vince - it usually takes 20 minutes to get across the roundabout !!!!!
