unfortunatley, you may own the land, but what you can do with it is controlled by MAFF and they are making it impossible for farmers and other landowners to open up their land to motor sport.
I think its to do with everyones favourite the EU and paying farmers to "set-aside" unused land. They would rather pay to keep it trimmed and tidy like a front garden than see people actually enjoying themselves on it
What have I told you about thinking Erroll

The way these people go on, you would think we were doing it on the public highway.

As for the guy saying that an ambulance can't get to anybody who is injured is complete tosh, what do they do if someone has a heart attack on the top floor of a high rise, do they drive the ambulance into the lift, no they walk.

The majority of people that go off road are extremely responsable people & know that if you pi$$ about people get hurt & anybody that does, gets there marching orders.

No matter what we say they try to find the smallest excuse to have a go.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Good comment at the end from the local nob politiko - 'close it down so members of the public aren't put at risk'. NOT!

Having been there I can tell you there are NO public there - its all bikers and off roaders going mental in the middle of nowhere. Quite the craziest site I've ever been to.

              Bl00dy good laugh tho lol

Seems to me greater benefit would be derived from closing down our borders to the Eastern European influx. Seems the checks are minimal and rapists and the like are free to travel here unhindered. That needs controlling. Gordon Brown needs controlling. The banks need controlling. The list is almost endless. What doesn't need controlling is people who are doing nor intend to do any harm to anyone. Three rapists got 6 years for raping a mentally challenged 16 year old then dousing her in caustic soda to destroy the forensic evidence. People like that need controlling. Tree huggers, get on a worthwhile bandwagon. Leave 4x4 owners alone. There is some arguement for large vehicles in central town locations, i agree, but lets see the politicians step up to the plate and set an example. The majority of us use our vehicles sensibly. We ARE green....look at all the recycling we do with parts and such. The majority of modern vehicles don't allow for repair of components, only replacement. Sorry about this rant chaps, but it does hack me off as I'm sure it does others. On the 'good publicity' front, how about local teams of 4x4 owners who volunteer themselves and vehicles in times of crisis? Floods, snows etc. I believe forming these local support groups would aid our cause, and when co-ordinated with local emergency services could provide real benefits when properly controlled and co-ordinated. Any thoughts?
                That'll fit!

Having made myself unpopular in the last "tree hugger" thread, have to say this is pretty silly.

Think it comes from the "any risk is unacceptable" brigade meeting full force with the "any damage is unacceptable." In reality, risks are acceptable (any sport has them - skiing anyone? Gliding? skydiving? running marathons?) and damage is acceptable when managed well. And limiting it to one, well known, controlled site seems to be about as well managed as you can get. As someone else pointed out, close it and it will spread much further and wider.

This is totally different to the urban use folk, as this is what these vehicles ARE designed for. And what's wrong with a few camping trips, some bonfires and a bit of beer in the country over a weekend? I can think of much more anti-social things to get up to

Can't see it getting closed down to be honest. As the politician says, it'd be "very hard to do."

I remember reading about the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents in a paper last year sometime. They wanted to force all parents to make kids wearing 'rolly' trainers also wear helmets, knee pads and elbow pads, as there had been 3 serious accidents involving them in the last 2 years, one of which included the poor kid breaking an ankle. And don't get me started on "safety cages" round the little 4' trampolines that you see in every second front garden. People are scared of anything they don't understand, especially if it involves possible danger/fun.

I think you will find it is more to do with health & safety and the fact that the landowner will be held responsible for any accidents or deaths.

There is a farm where I used to shoot clay pigeons which was also used by owners of off road bikes and quads but I think that has now been stopped.
My Nephew has recently been bought a 125cc off-road bike by his Dad. My Brother does not drive at the moment so I took them out with the Surf and a trailer to a site that a lot of bikes/quads use. It is private land but up until last month no one seemed to bother the bikers..... then one lad managed to kill himself and the police are all over the area now.

I’ve had road bikes in the past and still have an off-road bike in the shed that needs a rebuild and I’d love to do some off-road riding. I spoke to an old friend who owns a bike shop to see if he knew of anywhere local and all he could suggest was the site where the accident happened.

It looks like the only way that I can legally enjoy some off-road bike riding is if I go and buy a road registered bike, stick it on a trailer and go and find some green lanes and trails across the Welsh countryside.

Driving off road bikers away from previously organised (or semi organised) sites will not solve anything. The kids are still going to sneak off and find somewhere to use their bikes. I’m sure that there are plenty of adults who would gladly volunteer to help out and ensure that riders have a lot of fun in a reasonably safe manner. It is also easy enough to get some practical first-aid training so there are people there who can help in case there are any accidents.

when it comes to 4x4’s well we are all of adult age so should be able to take responsibility for ourselves and weight up the risks without some fuddy duddy in a suit telling us if something is safe or not.

I live with very real danger every day and I know how to manage risk. H&E have already stopped all Zoos and Safari Parks from coming into direct contact with venomous snakes in their collections... I am the only person permitted to do so as there is no other way to extract (milk) venom, if there was I’m sure they would have stopped me by now.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL
