Basically it's an OS map on your phone. It does some other neat tricks, which as a seasoned map and compass type walker, I find i never use them. I had to buy this software as memory map doesn't work with nokia mobiles.

Only problem with navman is the battery life - an hour or so when out walking using memory map.
Afew months ago I purchased View Ranger software (OS walkers series maps) for my Nokia N73 mobile, and a bluetooth GPS receiver. These give much better battery life - lasting a whole days getting lost in the lakes!!I'm a custard donut monster

memory map has to installed on PC first. The maps are loaded onto navman memorycard and installed. Then with a sync lead - connect navman to pc and send across the licence data - which activates the software on the navman.
If the above sounds a bit vague or "skipped over" then I'll write up the whole procedure if required. All the instructions are on the memorymap / TomTom inlay booklet.
The only problem I have found with the memory map is if you let the battery go flat - you have to re-install the licence from your pc. doesn't take long - just a bit of a pain.Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!

I bought a copy of TomTom v5 from ebay for £5, and bought the original (but older versions) of memory map from ebay also - around £15 each (north west and north east - covering Wales/lake district - over to the Humber and up to berwick sort of region.
I say older version - published 2005 - still pretty current but not the latest up to date version that cost many times more. I figured that most footpaths and bridleways in the countryside don't change that much over the years.Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!
