ARB air powered lockers are nearer 500 quid, but you do get everything needed to fit it including a little compressor and an illuminated switch for the dash. But I think they're a bit OTT for a daily driver.

The Detoit locker, or 'soft' locker, is much better value IMO, as it's a fit and forget part. It's an LSD but performs almost like a locker as it applies 100% torque to both rear wheels in a straight line but acts like an open diff when cornering on the road and is almost silent in operation.
Hi, Any idea what would be the Detroit locker code/ part number for a 2.4 Liter 2lt fitted 1992 Surf?

Also need one for my 1994 1kz 3 door Prado.

    Thanks
    Sajid

I think the diffs are the same size as a 2nd gen.

8" rear with a 7.5" up front.. If so any 8" + 7.5" diff lock will fit provided its a toyota fitment etc etc..

As for more travel, I'm not sure how the suspension is set up on a 3rd gen.. but going for different springs, an alternative joints on any connecting arms could only help.

          thanks Rod,

front end is on wish bones and the steering is rack and pinion on a 3gen, so i guess i am limited on lift and articulation.

            For the front......
Longer springs/struts/shocks and longer track rod ends , remove ARB.

            For the rear.......

Longer track rod ends? Why? Does that bit work differently to a 2nd gen? Is this cos the 3rd gen is a rack rather than a steering box?

3rd gens have a steering rack bolted to the body like a 'normal' car.
2nd gens have a fixed steering box bolted to the chasis and ball jointed link arms/levers, like a tractor!

Ah OK. Didn't realise the rack was attached to the body not the chassis.

Andy a LC is worth it....
Everything that Lucky and Yoshie said....

I got Nial's truck cheap but have spend nearly 2k by the end of next week just getting everything right...
From servicing to full poly bushes kit to BEB's to inner axel seals that where shot etc......
I still have to tart her up....

So I guess it will cost about 5k to get her how you want her....

                    But it's well worth it....
Yes you will scratch more grean laning and in the quarry not much will beat you...
and long distance they are just great....

However you look at it they are great vehicles I would never want anything else again....

and the fuel economy is not bad either....
I get nearly 100 miles for £20 around town when carefull....
a lot less with normal driving though... hahaha

There are enough cheapish ones out there...
There is a nice fully serviced LC for sale near me for 3.5k so you would not need to much more on that one...
One day at the time I guess..

Aye tucked up nicely out the way behind the front Diff Andy.
The bash plate is much larger extending much further back. The 3rd gens looks so much better protected under the front.

As for a cheap lift you could always fab up some spacers to sit between the top of the shocks and the body. An afternoon with the mig and some thick mild steel plate and large dia tube.

                        Mine hasn't got a bashplate.

I don't think it's going to need one really , let's be honest!
