Repairing Angel Eyes

Hi Guys, Anybody ever replaced the blue neons on their angel eyes succesfully? I've just stripped mine out, and on a couple of them one of the blue neons has packed up, if they are neons that is?
What I was thinking is to buy a couple more lights of ebay, make them more water/rust proof and keep the repaired ones as spares.
