Extended wheel arches

I have just fitted a set of 33" Maxxis Buckshot Mudders on 10" rims. As it sits now the tyres are about an inch out past the arches and as I need to get an MOT I need to sort something out. I see there are extended flares available but they are kinda expensive.
I am thinking of cutting some 6mm thick rubber into strips and fixing them to the underside of the existing arches to extend them.
So what have you lot done to make yours MOT friendly?

It's not an mot issue but plod may pull ya, mine are sticking out about 2" and the mots hopefully this week

The tyres sticking out pass the arches is nothing to do with the mot.
I have 33's on 15x10's and -52 offset and they stick out a fair bit and its only down to the police if they want to make an issue out of it.This is what my tester told me and he's right up on the mot laws and won't let anything thru if its wrong

it will go through an mot the way it is,there is no law against it.
