  • Winch owners- am I being thick?

Finally got my winch wired up yesterday.

All connected fine and with a bit of tweaking fitted the solenoid pack in the engine bay with extended cables.

I've got one of the cheap fleabay numbers like the one attached:

I cant get the clutch knob to rotate to the 'engaged' setting (i.e. pointing towards the front of the surf) it will rotate to the 'free spool' position but then will only move half way (45 degrees) around.

When at free spool I cant pull the cable off the drum.

The motor all runs fine in both positions but the cable wont move in or out.

when the numpty guy who fitted it for me fitted it he missed the fact that the clutch knob would have to move out in front of the bumper so he had to grind the top of the knob off so it was free to move but I dont see that this should have stopped it moving around to the engaged position?

Am I being thick or is it fubarred?

don't you have to pull on the cable a bit for the clutch to engage / disengage??

wouldn't it have been better to cut a bit out the bumper rather than cut part of the winch?... surely that voids any warranty??
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

mine was the same when i first used it. the way i got round it was to let the line out with the motor and keep trying to push the knob round once engaged all sorted i have left mine in the engage postion because i found that everytime i went to use it, i had the same prob. if he has grinded the whole of the right angwl bit off then your gonna have big probs to get it to engage first time.

Thank you kindly gents- I'll try it tomorrow when its not brass monkeys outside.

He only ground the top half of the lever off so its not too bad. He's still a ****
                            though
