  • ebay - some advice?

    hi all,
i sold my new phone on ebay, and someone who's supposed to be female bought it for £180. all is good, they asked if they can pick it up rather than wait for it to be sent i said thats ok.
this person is called emma, except its a young bloke.. i think, ok...
so they make payment today, and its from a confirmed paypal address... in north wales!

they said they are coming from streatham which is about 10 min drive. the pay pal account is a womans..

this just seems too dodgy dont it.. how can i get pay pal to deal with this? their website isnt very helpful.

what could happen - the money has gone to my pay pal.
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

i called paypay , and they said i should only post to the confirmed address (in wales) and have it so that its signed for. that way, if there ever was a dispute then there is proof i posted it (to wales) and nothing will come back on me.

however, if i let the buyer pick this up, then it could all go wrong in the future.

also, ive spoke to the bloke on the phone a few times now, and he speaks like he is from streatham... he claims he lived in wales, but i doubt very much he did!

im a bit confused with paypals recommendation.
what if you cant post it, lets say it was a winch bumper, what then?
most of the auctions i bid for are collection only.
dont know, why didnt he just bring the cash with him when he collects it, or maybe he wanted to be covered by paypal guarantee?
                  dont know.

yep, i said to him, the best thing is bring the cash, then there cant be a dispute later on. otherwise i can only post to that confirmed address..
he didnt really want to bring the cash, and said he would think about it.

                      steer clear
                      lots of scams around
                      you dont need the agro
he might be genuine, but then again....

Its his responsabilty to change his address, it takes 5 minutes, and another 7 days to have it confirmed.

relist and ask for you original listing fee to be credited back.

That im afraid might take a while....

Or you could transfer money to your account, move house, change your name, get a face transplant and you're £180 quid ahead.
