  • Think i'm happy with the quote for my new exhaust

With MOT looming i thought it best to sort out a new exhaust to replace the cullinder like tube currently residing under my car.

I want it stainless and side exiting to help get rid of fumes, and so it doesn't get buggered offroad, and so it has a lifetime guarantee.

So i toddled off to my local powerflow place and got it up on there ramps for the fella to decide how by how much he wanted to empty my pockets.

It was concluded that it needs to go from the downpipe back, with a bit of flexi, a short silencer an in 2.5" bore. He did warn me it'll quite a bit louder than standard (nice one!).

He vanished for 5 mins and came back with the verdict:

"Well to do it.........including the vat....... and everything..........it'll be £180"

I personally think thats pretty ###### good myself! was expecting a quote of £300, and then me to come home and figure out how to do it for myself, but for £180 i may aswell have a proper job done.

    Just thought i'd share!

well the it currently ends at the end of the useless rear silencer bit, cos the rest fell off some months ago. I counted a total of 5 other holes in it today too, so pretty confident the MOT wouldn't be happy with it.

so does it seem is have a good price?

He asked me what style of tail pipe i wanted to finish it off!! I just laughed and said something passengers won't cut or burn themselves on!

Powerflow are very inconsistent - basically just a franchise operation based on a supply of cheap stainless pipe and standard tail pipes. The 'technical' bit - tuning and noise - is down to the fitter that you get.

I had one put on to my V6 (when the centre section of the existing one fell off) and it was OK quality and pretty well put together. They were very worried about getting it quiet enough and it ended up alright - a little boomy but smooth too. The 3VZ-E is not the most refined of V6s in the first place.

If you're thinking of getting one, I'd suggest you visit your nearest franchise and ask to see some examples of what they've done. Then you can tell if it's a good one or a bad one.

                Thats still pretty damn cheap!

Tell him you dont want a 'tailpipe'. Just cut the 2.5" pipe off where you want it to end. Job done.

not really expecting any performance gains, just enjoying the lifetime guarantee!

had one fitted to my 2nd gen , lifetime guarantee on all the pipe only thing that wasnt included was the hangers ,
sounded good not a lot of noise and much better for offroading [exit behind rear wheel]
cost a lot more than your quote , if i could get it for same price as yours would get 3rd gen done
Only Toyota can get you out of shite

                              Just picked the truck up.

I did slightly lead you all astray with the price. It actually came in at £185 inc VAT.

It sounds quite a bit more fruity, but with the windows shut its just a low drone, kinda cancels out the noise from my tyres!

From what i can see in the dark it looks great! from the down pipe comes a proper flexi pipe, then a dinky little silincer, then at about 60 degrees, it comes out sidewards and exits just infront of the rear wheel, cut at a nice angle too so its looks steathly. Though the guy did say "it throws some gasses out doesn't it! best be careful not to blow and cyclists over!"

I did enquire as to if they were to do it for someone else would it be the same price (as they'd never done one before, and sorta guessed mine). He said yes, so long as the nuts came off ok, and didn't need any majoy grinding and re-fabrication of plates and drilling new bolt holes etc, as that would ramp up the man hours etc.

I'll take some pics of it tomorrow for you all, but from what i can see they've really tucked it up high (bonus as i've had a body n sus lift), and it looks lovely n shiny.

PLus i have got the lifetime guarantee certificate.

                              cheers,

                              Martin

PS. the guy is trying to get into offroading himself and just bought a disco, i said we surf owners enjoy pulling them out!
