    hi all,

but what are the differences between the two? apart from a surf has chrome bumpers!!!

4runner is the UK version, Surf is the import.

beware mate. 4runners have been subject to english conditions since their registration which usually means more rot. imports haven't.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

          T'is true.

          4Runners are normally rust buckets.

Plus some lack the electronic extras of the Surf. Windows/mirrors etc.

To be honest, for the small extra i'd get a Surf.
And a LSD will only help out so much.

I have a 4runner that was imported in 2000?, It dosent have many electrics but cant say i am that botherd as it does get very wet and muddy : ). Am i right in thinking the Surfs have things like wheels arches, bullbars and extra bits. Where as the 4runner has the spare wheel under the boot (not on the back) and is a bit more basic (better)

I still don't understand your 4runner. Where was it imported from? I presume it's RHD?

The main difference is that surfs have aircon and runners don't. Runners also have a non-exploding clutch. The other extra bits you mention are all options on the surf and may or may not be present.

Incidentally, given the choice of a 4runner or surf, assuming they're in the same condition, I'd go for the 4runner. Cheaper insurance and Toyota don't spit at you if you take it to them.

Having owned both and still have a 96 4Runner of the UK variety there is very little difference.
4Runner you get all the electric windows, mirrors etc. The only real difference is air con was an option as is sunroofs. Mine has an electric sunroof where as my surf didnt, so its down to what the previous owner had fitted as the optional extras.
Biggest difference is you dont get the pull out cup holder in the 4Runner as standard
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

I have a 4runner SR5 which was imported and not made for this country, as far as i know. Right hand drive with sunroof and air con, plus it had many extras, some kind Japanese gentleman had had fitted.
