evening all, when i changed my oil and filter i used a none toyota filter, since the change i have a tapping on start up fron cold, tapp goes as oil pressure comes up, would the none gen filter cause this?

Filter wouldn't cause that, I shouldn't think. I use Toyota oil filters, and mine always sounds like a bag of spanners when cold. Oil would be more likely. Have you changed type or viscosity?

no, used 10\40 semi syn oil, i was told toyota filter had a valve thingy in it, thats why i thought filter.

Some have the anti-drainback valve, some don't. That valve only serves the purpose of retaining some oil in the filter for startup. It wouldn't lead to a noisy engine until it warmed up though. That only makes a difference for the first second or two on startup.

In honesty, unless the noise worsens, I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt many, (if any), of these engines still purr from cold.

the top end on my truck rattles like a rattly thing. If the oil pressure is half way up then its ok but as soon as the oil pressure goes down a bit it rattles all the time.
I think i need to get the shims replaced in mine as this only happened when i blew the turbo a couple of years ago and lost oil pressure and high temps
