  • Physio was..... interesting!

    Right...

    Physio today!

pointless?!? Yeah, I think that sums it up best!!

The nurse is going with "tendonitis" (thats probably spelled wrong.. )

Now, As far as i was aware my GP had suggested that.. given me some stuff an it didn't work.

So shes choosen a joint which she thinks is mostly likey to be the problem (2nd one in my thumb) an wrapped the damn thing in a plastic material so i cant move it!

I have to wear it for the next 6 weeks removing it every two hours for some excercises.

check up next friday where i think i might suggest that were 'barking up the wrong tree'

I'm inclinded to agree with Charvell that it might be neck related. Plus he knows his stuff so im happy to just agree with him rather then the groups of muppets ive seen so far.

Dont think so. Only recently started playing again. Before that it was months without an it was still bad.

I sometimes wonder about RSI. I draw a lot, play games, type a fair bit. manual job.

Guitar of course being a big one!!

      Just want it sorted really.

I had to wear a cast on my hand and have 6 weeks of physio after stabbing myself through the hand with a hunting knife and cutting the 2 tendons that make your thumb move. Also had a week in hospital for plastic surgeory to glue them back together. Got some good scares though.

when i was playing guitar a lot, i used to get pain in the joint of my thumb where it meets the wrist (if you know what i mean?)...

my fingers are too fat for guitar nowadays, so i'm cured!!

Rod - have you been to see Charvell - not sure how far away from each other you are - I've been to my GP about my back and increased problems walking, and he suggested I had an X-Ray - so off I went to see if the foot I hadn't used for 2 weeks was broken.....and ended up in the DVT ward....

I don't have DVT (although it took a long and emotional day to find this out) but still can't walk properly, have spasms along my back a lot, mostly when I lay on my back that I keep being told to do, I hate stairs as it hurts like hell to go up or down, I can't put my weight on my knees, and my ankles don't seem to work anymore.....

I've been at the chiros 3 times a week for 7 weeks now, and not much going on - so if there is an osteopath near me that fancies some Jammie Dodgers and a cup of instant coffee, and see if they can see what's wrong, then please let me know - but Rod, I'd get someone else to check you over and see what they think mate.

back problems are the worst. you can near cripple yourself so easily. last year when i put mine out i was only washing my car and it felt like a vice had been put on my entire body on full lock. trouble is you need to do some form of exercise to keep your back strong, and you can't do any exercise when it does go, its just such a shit situation to be in.

my sister has had about 5 different operations now and she seems to have the same symptoms you describe. she's been in such a bad way now for about 10 years and the doctors still have no clue what they're really doing.

good luck to anyone in this extreme a situation - but please for your own sake seek 2nd and 3rd opinions before you let the butchers near you because my sister started off a slim healthy girl with severe back pain, but able to get about. after each op she's gotten worse and developed further symptoms. now she's got neck, arm, leg, ankle and back problems, and yet she still lets them operate without even a 2nd thought as soon as they say the magic words "this should sort it - this time".
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

does that mean that you still haven't seen if our resident specialist can sort your problem rod? i'd have thought you'd want to get it sorted asap and get back to your life of x-box playing!

I thought tendinitis was pretty much the same thing as RSI. where the tendon is pulled from the bone by repeated use?!?!?! from what i can recall rest and a slow build up of exercise is the best as doing to much can inflame the poorly bit and prolong the problem. if this is your problem then you just need time to grow your tendon back onto the boney bits. i am not a doctor or a joint specialist, just what i have found out when i got a touch of tennis elbow from playing squash! took a while but i am all better now and wear a strap on my forarm to help prevent that horrid pain again. so i can go some way to empathize with you.
hope you get it sorted. plus xrays wont show soft tissue damage you might need an MRI. good luck
it never rain it pours! glad I got the 4X4

I don't get it, Rod. Who did you see, a nurse or a physio? They are rather different things. If it was a nurse, they'll have even less of a clue than the doctor that sent you there. If it was a physio, they can help but are more about getting the pain to stop than necessarily addressing what caused it.

We all keep recommending Charvell because he is a physio who is used by professional sports teams and because he is an osteopath. He will be able to look at how you stand, sit, move etc and see if there is a reason why you got injured rather than just stopping it from hurting.

You can stick with the NHS, but you will get frustrated and will probably get no joy until they replace something when you're in your sixties. You would be much better off finding someone private who can help you now. A decent Osteopath is likely to cost about £30-50 to check you out and tell you what's up.

Incidentally, I am not the sort of person who complains about the NHS. They do a very hard job pretty well, but a young bloke with a sore hand is not going to be at the top of anyone's list.

It was a physio i saw. I didn't mean to cause any confusion by saying she was a nurse. Im not totally clued up on terms etc as far as medical things are concerned!

Im giving thought to looking into private treatment. Im happy to pay the fee's etc. An i agree the NHS do a tough job pretty well an to be fair to them, Its made even tougher by the fact my hand wont swell up on demand!

I go there an tell them its painful. If i do anything too much it hurts then it swells up... well, im sat in a doctors surgery!! Im not doing anything too much an so it isn't swollen!

So i can understand they would have issues sorting anything out if they even believe me!

One thing, Since wearing this splint on my thumb ive noticed more an more pain coming from the joint at the base of my thumb. So that might be able to help point this in the right direction. I have a check up on friday am. So i'll see what the physiotherapist says.
