  • Installing new shocks

Today I replaced the standard shocks with a set of +2" ES9000's
How tight does the nut need to be on the top mount? There is no stop for it to bite down onto, so the more you tighten it the more the rubber bushes squash and deform.
As there are no instructions supplied I thought I would see what everyone else has done.

I had advice direct from Barry at Roughtrax.. Tighten till the rubber is the same size as the metal washers.

That makes sense and thats actually what I have done but I thought I would check.
The reason being that only a plain nut is supplied so can simply work itself undone. Putting it under tension by compressing the rubbers will hold it I guess. I am surprised they dont include a nyloc or 2 nuts so you can lock them together.

Yeah I'm guessing they're counting on a bit of rust to hold it all tight..

I smeared a little locking compound on my ones.

            mornin

when i fitted my new shocks (from milners, not Roughtrax) the thread for the top nuts only goes so far down the rod. They also came with 2 nuts for each top

I asked Milners and they confirmed that the first nut should be tightened as far as teh thread will allow and then to put the second nut on to lock it all down.

Seems to compress the rubber bushes by about 2 thirds

            hope this helps
