Decent length ariel? It's not something you can choose for appearance or taste.

27MHz = 11.1m wavelength so quarter wave will be typically 2.75m, which isn't really practical for a vehicle mounted antenna, so you tend to see 1/8th wave ones which are about 1.4m give or take a bit depending on the type of loading - or the amount of waffle the seller is capable of.

Hmmmm, 1.4m is roughly 4.5ft in old money eh?

Would this be a good size to mount on the rear wheel carrier or would you suggest something around the 1m mark?

It wasn't until I started ranting that someone remembers where they moved it to, I now have the radio, the SWR meter & extention speaker, I have quite a few antennae & mounts so all I need now is some coax.

The radio is a midland model 77-104, it's 6.5 inches long by 4.5 inches wide & 1.5 inches thick.

I found my amp/preamp too but it's bigger than the radio

Radio, antenna mount, coax all sorted, just got to decide which antenna to put on, the K40 on the mag mount I don't want so that will be up for swaps, so it's between the firestick, the base loaded whatever it is (can't remember) the double coiled sirio or the centre loaded modulator.

I do have another double coiled antenna but it's massive, too big I think for the surf.

Is there any reason no one's suggested a mag mounted antenna?

That's what I have. Good enough range for use when you're out with your mates.

Yeah. After buying my CB the other day and testing it out i can't see why anyone would want to use one for any other reason.
All i heard was 'CB Enthusiasts' talking about the weather and how good a signal they could get. And one middle aged bloke talking about the Pink CD someone gave him for his birthday....

You may find some of these people are disabled & chatting on the CB is their only way to chat with friends without having to pay large phone bills, there are several around here.

I have magmount bases but as I like to DX I want a quality fixed antenna but as you say for limited use a magmount would be fine.
