Been having some toothache the past couple of days, and after a probe around I've noticed that the gum around my wisdom teeth on one side is black. A similar thing happened to Mrs Chaos last year it was becuase where the wisdom tooth is taking so long to come through, the base of it has gone rotten as it can't be cleaned properly. So I ring up my dentist and because I haven't visited in 2.5 years I've been struck off as a patient. I can register as a private patient, but not NHS. After some ringing around dentist surgeries the earliest appointment to register as an NHS patient was the 28th October. So I'm going to spend the next month eating paracetamol and ibuprofen.

jason dont leave it, find your nearest emergancy dentist and get it sorted. people dont realise how the state of their teeth and really affect their health. if you get the infection tracking into your blood it can cause an infection n the valves in your heart and really f**k you up! i realy nice bloke i work with has bee left paralised from the neck down due to an abcess next to his spinal cord, and its thought that started due to dental abcesses. get it sorted mate your health is too improtant. i have been saying for years the government has f**ked up with dentist letting them go private its causing so much more health problems. the NHS is meant to provide health care that is free at the point of delivery (or a small fee ) and what it looking after your teeth if its not health care.
you better reply to say you have an appointment with the emergancy dentist of i will keep badgering you. oh and keep your other apointment with the NHS dentist and go regulary esle you could find your self in the same situation again.
you probaly just need some anti-biotics and an xray to see if they need pulling out.
get it done!!!it never rain it pours! glad I got the 4X4

I was in a similar situation a while back. Didn't believe in going unless I had a problem.
Yes, you guessed it, problem and no dentist! I went to the local Dental Access place to the emergency dentist as I was in unbelievable pain with a back tooth. he pulled it, and it broke up getting it out as the root was rotten.
Now I have an NHS place, go every 6 months and no problems ever since!
I never want to go through pain like that again though.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

It was £16 for a check up, the dentist found it wasn't the tooth causing the problem. The gum has decided to grow over the top of the tooth at the back, so every time my teeth close together the part of the overgrown gum gets smushed between the teeth. This is what's causing the pain and infection. Going back at lunchtime to get the gum cut back and cleaned up, an extra £28. He was going to do it yesterday, but surgery was going to close and he wants me to stay around incase the bleeding doesn't stop. Does mean I get to keep my what's left of my teeth, had 2 taken out on the top jaw when I was 12 as there was no room for all of them.
The most you pay on NHS for dental work is £198, and that's for bridge work. Fillings and tooth removal is £44. A basic check up, x-ray, and clean is £16. It's still annoying that after paying tax and national insurance I still have to pay extra again.Hold my beer and watch this
