this is a virtual machine, running on an overclocked vista host machine.
may be i should have also used windows server 2003 as my host machine, but i like vista and how it works, the only downside is that its a bit RAM hungy.
server 2003 seems to only want 80mb of ram once its loaded up and ive logged in,
vista seems to want 700mb - 1gb once i have loaded up, logged in and loaded server 2003.

ive also setup dns on the box, and i will be sorting out dhcp so i can propperly set reservations since my firewall router does this, and is a bit pants at doing what its told.
    rite cool..

I run all the main pc on vista and the main laptop..
(main: 3.6gig dual core intel, 4gig ram Laptop: about 2gig dual core intel 1 gig ram)

Now I have a old pc that I am gonna setup as a server again..
    But on Linux lol

How do u find running the server on a virtual machine? does it slow down ur normal computing much?
One day at the time I guess..

not really. i have two virtal machines, one xp and one server 2003. it makes it so easy for backing them up, you just copy their disk.
i do all my software testing on a virtual xp machine, the other day its hard disk got over 16gb with all the crap i had installed on it. so i just deleted it and duplicated the backup, renamed the backup to what it should be named and i was back up again in less than 5 mins.
ive done the same with the server.

i have 2 hard disks, the vm hard disk is on the 2nd drive. apparently this is supposed to help exponentially but ive always done this so i dont know what the benefit is.
i RDP to each vm machine from external and i dont notice the difference.
when im on the vista machine, i use the vm window, (actually its virtual pc as its free) and its just like a real pc is. no different.
      Oh Nana, what's my name?

Only ever had the quickest of looks at Joomla. Until they get PgSQL support built in properly, can't say as I'll be paying it too much attention. Last time I checked, I think they still only have partial support for it?

          Sounds not bad then..
I always thought that it might slow the system down to much seen as I use it for adobe CS2 (Illustrator, photoshop mainly) and I did not want to loose any speed while working..

I do run it on two screens tho...
          makes life easier..

Yeah I got 2 HD's in the main pc and run a external on the network for all the data, (altho that one is currently ehhhh partition-less long story)

be interesting to try running a virtuall machine..
I did run Dual boot XP/ Vista for a while but am now only running vista as it runs well and I have no issues with it..

          I think it is superb..

might give the virtual thing a go soon.... just to see how it works..

I will get the linux server back up one of these days and send u a link so u can log on and have a look through see what u think..
