  • A warning about brakes

Just a heads up about possible brake failure.

Whilst offroading today I lost my brake peddle, straight to floor. I had recently fitted new braided hoses and I thought that a join or bleed nipple had failed.
Turns out it was the pipe below reservoir/servo that goes to the rear brakes.
It has a coil turned into pipe to allow a bit of flex and the edge of one of the coil turns had been gently rubbing against the lower inner wing causing a small pinhole, the pipe was in otherwise excellent condition. It normally has a foam/rubber sheath over the pipe at this point but this had slipped down.

It's always worth checking the condition of brake pipes and the routes they take to check for things like this. I'm glad it happened offroad under light braking and not in the event of an emergency on the road.

I'll fit a new pipe tomorrow and make sure it is routed away from anywhere it could get damaged.

Surprisingly ok, fronts were working great, just no rears.
I had fitted new pads a week ago so they were in good order and discs are perfect.

btw, I crimped the damaged brakepipe to give me full braking on the fronts.

No-one took any notice when I pointed out a potential rear brake failure due to bad corrosion of the rigid lines that you cant see behind the fuel tank.

I did I checked mine and yoshies. they were fine in both cases.
I hope others did too, these trucks are getting old.
the line that failed with me was as new condition, it had simply rubbed away on inner wing.
