i had that happen to me but in the kitchen, unbeknown to us the connection on the bath tap was leaking and the water collected on the ceiling plaster board un noticed until it all ended on the kitchen floor,took over 3 months to get done we had to have a visit by 4 different observers including one from cornwall to test if there was any asbestos present before work could start, h&s gone mad it was a kitchen ceiling for gods sake.
And your joists, although damp, are in good nick. Electrician did a good job as well, even clipped the cables to the joist, most leave them lying in the void; don't they Gordon?

at least the bath or copper cylinder hasn't come through and bought the boards and joists down with it,
and the mother inlaw hasn't gon sailing down the street on the setee
