An George mate , (glad to see you back btw...) I know you like things a bit rough in your truck, a 35" tyre on the end of a toyota IFS being flung about will f*ck somet up a treat!
Proves that Toyota got the design right in the first place and that a lot of modifications can be a poor compromise. Some are an improvement but others such as 35”s on an already underpowered little 2.4 are a backwards step.Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

Its not if you build it to run 35's offroad properly. Rod has just enough lift to clear 35's on the road, he's problem is they will rub when pushed up into the wheels arches.
Regearing will solve all his power issues.
Bigger tyres are always better when offroad, as long as they don't rub and trash your bodywork.
The problem here is not really building the truck to fully get the most out of the size of tyres that he has when offroad.

That is fair enough... a re-gear and a big powerful V8 would make it into a superb off-road machine... but not as good on road (handling, clearance in car-parks and difficult for short passengers to get in ) so yes a compromise... which is all well and good if you can live with it.Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

not sure of the actual lift hight was finaly but the sills were
32" of the ground and had good articulation with 33" tyres
the truck was well mannered on the road and unstopable off road
but as i am registered disabled with iffy legs was not always practical
as an everyday runabout will put the full specs on if your intrested
but the only problem hight wise is getting in and out and when you are off
road you always manage to stop with a hollow under the doors

But still... ignore my truck because it wasn't built with hardcore offroad in mind!!
Look at GWH200's truck, that is built for offroad an does it a bl**dy damn sight better then stock

I could add another 1.5" to the body lift an still be in the realms of what is acceptable on the body lift side of things an run the 35's perfectly well. (in fact... im regretting saying that, anyone got a 3" body lift around?!?)

was hoping you'd pick up on that!
i spoke for a long time, with firstly tonyn.infact i bent his ear for about 2 weeks with all the permutation of lift.i could have gone for +2 springs and spacers and uprated torsion bars etc, but after his advice, went for the hdj80 springs and ball joint spacers. i went also for a 2" inch body lift, coupled with manual hubs.i suppose it isnt as good onroad as a stock surf....but its been built with a more offroad bias in mind, so losing on road manners for an increase in offroad ability, is imho worth it....for me.
if someone has a stock truck and are happy with it, great.i wanted something as capable ofroad as possible.with regards to a lift, there is a point ,when having ifs , that a lift is just purely cosmetic.as said before, for the best offroading your gonna need a real solid front axle.
but the botom line is if you want a raised truck...go for it, its your truck do what you wantNon intercooled nothing.

and as these machines are independent front suspension, you will end up lowering the whole frame.....which kinda defeats the clearence gain from the body. the body will be say 10 inches in the air, and the front ifs frame wil still be about the same height as it ever was.
if you want serious lift, consider a solid front axle swap, but consider a bigger engine as well
Hi all!. About the above, have been thinking about doing that. Any info on it anywhere??? Thank's

Next in the pipeline is the LC springs, with +4" Procomp dampers all round.
Then Ill probably install the manual hubs
If the truck needs it, ball joint spacers will then be fitted
