Hey, sorry to rant once more, but a certain element of this country's indiginous population's 'THE WORLD OWES ME!!!' attitude REALLY p1sses me off.

amen to that. We have them sponging goits surrounding us. Soon as one of the kids gets older (read that as they don't start to get as much money), bloke comes round for a bit, then hey presto, another child is spawned and bloke leaves again duty fullfilled and another little income stream for the mother.
All they do is sit at home and watch telly and scream at the kids, so the kids go outside in little packs and damage everything they can find. They're used to getting screamed at so nothing you say does anything. Just today some of our nicer neighbours got a screwdriver chucked over their wall and a big dint put in their car roof. Kids get screamed at by mother but nothing happens. And we've just pretty much taken over looking after a cat from our street that was got for their little boy, he's decided he doesn't want to do anything with it apart from kick it and it's become severely emaciated and we've had to start feeding it and it's a lovely little thing.
Sorry i've started ranting now but it's something that really annoys me, i've literally got hundreds of personal examples which demonstrates to me at least, that something is severely wrong with our benefits system and all it does is encourage sponges and breeds a new generation of useless degenerate humans.

I understand exactly what you mean, but....................., in all honesty, (and that link which Matt posted is a prime example of what I mean), what incentive is there to work these days? Who is actually the fool?

I'm old school, like you, and would rather be dragged over hot coals than become a resident sponger with no intention of ever working, but we get screwed over for that way of thinking every day. They do not. Truth be told, I personally, (as much as it annoys me), cannot honestly blame them for it. This country does actually penalise you for wanting to hold your head high these days.

Trouble is though Matt, if I were to suggest that 'they' get six months to take a job, or PROVE (not just borrow a crutch from a neighbour and hobble to the dole office) that they are genuinely unfit for work, or they lose their council house and benefits, then I'm branded as 'unfeeling' or worse by the tree hugging liberal bleeding hearts.

As you say, these people KNOW the loopholes and think "why should I work when the taxpayer will fund me?" It's time we did something about it, and 'social security' became something we can be proud of once more, rather than an easy to blag laughing stock.

it is a bit peculiar, if i was to divorce my wife and leave the marital home, she would receive an AWFUL lot more stae help than we would recieve as a married couple........its vey heavily biased towards single parents...shame

what is dyslexia anyway? surely if more attention was paid at school there wouldnt be any?

It depends on whether she is having the baby so she doesn't have to work or if she is having a baby anyway and is aware that there are benefits available to mean she doesn't have to work.

In my opinion, it is absolutely criminal to leave a pre-school child with anyone other than a member of its family and if that means the mum can't work for four years, so be it. I would much rather that than have yet another unwanted kid turning into a criminal.

she was going on saying she wanted to have a kid... my mate didnt think ahead and use anything.. so she got pregnant and excited that she wouldnt have to work because she would get more benefits and a place to lve.

but to someone who didnt really have a future planned out, or the knowledge to plan out their own future - then what she has done is obviously the easier option (if your goals arnt too high to start with, you want to be stuck in england, and your the type of person who will stay in their small town and never leave etc etc)

Dyslexia shouldn't be branded stupidity or laziness. It isn't about not concentrating at school, it is a 'disability' of sorts.

Whether it is worthy of a cash allowance is debatable. Personally, I would suggest not as I would have thought it is not particularly debilitating. However, there are many mental illnesses which ARE debilitating, yet dont qualify for DLA. Serious depression (not just feeling a bit blue, proper, crushing, immobilising depression) can stop a person in their tracks, and make them unable to function for periods of time, yet it is still not taken seriously by some..

Generally though, DLA is (and should be) awarded to those who cannot physically work to a normal full capacity for whatever reason.

i know two people who say that they are dyslexic.
one of them has a full time job, doesnt claim any benefits, has a flat with his gf and 2 kids. a car... but he has trouble if he were to be asked to write down his home address or reading letters and things like that.

the other can read fine, misunderstands some words and things, and some words she cant spell correctly but is that dyslexia?

there are a couple of ailments. my sis in law in iowa is HUGELY dyslexic
she has real trouble even writing her name, but she works ...in a library, which helps her enourmously, hell she has even taken up crosswords. my wife on the other hand suffers from dyspraxia, i do believe its called word blindness, but she has a 2:1 education type degree, that she slaved over for four years.
to claim you cannot work because of either ailment is utter tosh.

and i do have to point out that as a parent of an 8 and 3 year old, its vital imho that the child is looked after by the parent(s). my 3 year old goes to nursery 2 days a week, also vital to develop their social niceities,and during this time my wife works p/t as a primary school teacher.any extra ciricular childcare is taken care off by mother in law, whom the kids relate to/adore, and feel very comfortable and safe with.
some parents may not have the luxury of being able to stay at home,but the least you can do is try and do the right thing.
i offer my son ,ed, as an example.those of you that have met him,always comment on what a well behaved, ploite,good natured boy he is, and i am EXTREMELY proud of his achievements (he can be a right handful at home, but that obviousy means he's comfortable with giving me aggro)
the important thing is that socially he is well thought of, and is a kind soul..............its down to constant, calm, insistent parenting,trying to show him how to do the right thing, even if i have not been able to be there all the time.

Good for you re. the parenting. I try to do it the same way. Let them be kids, climb trees, scuff knees etc, but teach them respect for others.

hearing someone outside of my immediate family say that, makes my old heart swell with pride.thank you andy.
as for tree climbing/camping/being outside etc..thats so character building, and something, that i feel is pivotal in building up kids character and so forth (and he is going to iowa )

Looks like I missed all of the fun. What I meant was that the benefit should be in place so that women who have kids, stay at home to bring them up, then lose their partner for whatever reason can continue to stay at home and care of the kids, not go out to work and leave the kid with neighbours or some kind of 'child-minder'.

I totally agree on useless people banging out useless kids, but that's another story.
