  • Checking Gear oil level ?

After bout a 4 hour motorway journey the other day I noticed my stick shift on my manual 2.4 was a bit warm to the touch. never noticed this before, so felt the transfer case when i got home and again it was a bit too warm for my liking.
Queastion is how do I check my gear oil level and is there something else I should be looking at?

There's a filler plug (24mm IIRC) in the side of gearbox and transfer case. Proper level is bottom of hole. I suggest a drain and refill if you have no idea when it was last done. They do get very hot on long high speed journeys. I could have cooked breakfast on my floor pan on a trip I did out west in 43 deg.C heat.
