when ive saved up a little, i MIGHT buy one of these ~200mw lasers, has anyone seen them?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEwp...eature=related

ive seen someone on here with a laser avatar, may be he knows more about them.
but i did some reading and the thing you are after is not always about the power rating, but how much the laser light itself diffuses (think thats the word)
ill describe it: you know when you shine a torch at a wall when your close up, and the beam is say 2cm wide, and if you stand back a few feet the beam will be 20cm wide, well lasers do this too, but by a lot less, and ive read that to get a good laser is when the it does this the least.

you can point on the clouds and stuff, and its pretty useless other than that..
has anyone got one of these green ones?
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

use a laser around here and it becomes the target for the nearest Apache

Be careful I did some reading on them and the green ones are very dangerous compared to red. The red ones are only dangerous when your eyes have direct exposure, green can be indirect. My eyes hurt after 5 mins with mine so I junked it. Have a read and be warey

They are tiny lasers compared to what i work with....

The ones i align work on four wavelengths to do various beauty treatments and produce 100w of power and what a pong when you burn flesh. At
$200 000 they should be good
Im not a gynacologist but ill have a look

              Agree about the potential dangers.

Cant really imagine why you'd want one as a toy. You'll soon get bored of pointing it into peoples living rooms, and at the clouds and stuff.

PS - what you're driving at is beam divergence. A collimated beam is what makes a laser a laser.

There's a member - laser jock - who'll be able to tell you more. My involvement was peripheral in things like target designators, rangefinders etc when I worked on Apache, and one or two beamrider ATGWs.

It was most impressive in the dark on Strata last October. Nearly a Kw of lighting in total, and I wouldn't have wanted to do the bombhole in the dark with any less!

but it also looks very pretty with the little blue led's. you can now look after all my external lighting requirements sir !!

and it was fun flashing those that decided they didnt need to turn their lights off full beam. they changed their minds ever so quickly !!

                      Oh yeah!

I had them combined (for a short while) with four 130w spots on the front. There was the odd selfish git got a short burst of the whole lot. As you say, they do tend to dip pretty quickly then

un fortunately no. but the cover isvery thick glass, probably about 3/4 inch thick. they come from an age when things were built to a standard, not a price.
