  • wheel bearings, how long is too long?

Ok, my wheel bearings are starting to make the "fix me please" noise. Only problem is my beer tokens are to be spent on moving into a house with Mrs Chaos and beer, leaving the surf taking 3rd place. How long would they last before the noises sound more expensive? I.E would the truck do the run to the sun? If not I may have to opt out of this year's trip

You're putting beer before your truck??????????????

No, it won't make it to Cornwall if they are making noises now.

How do you take them apart? I could probably do it, but it's the putting back together maybe a problem.

If your wheels aren't glowing dull red, you'll be fine, trust me. I'm a doctor. Of sorts... well, not at all really, but I reckon you'll be fine. And if you aren't it wont affect me directly.

had an advisory on MOT - "slight play on o/s front wheel bearing"

what do i need to do to adjust?

reading the write up above is of use but can the nut be adjusted without removing the hub

also only got usual socket set and spanners (plus pipe grips and stilsons, bit rough I know) - is it adviseable to get a 55mm Hub Socket

                  thanks

Yes. The nut will probably feel loose. Just do it hand tight, spin the hub, and give it quarter of a turn on that. Dont overtighten or you'll toast your bearings.

Theyre Only About £30 Each, Would It Not Be Easier To Replace Them?

What's the point unless replacement is actually needed?

sorry just to confirm you can get at the tab washer and nut just by removing the dust cover?
