  • how do i find out what width my wheels are?

trying to find out what width my wheels are as when i look 4 new tyres all the sizes are in inches? i.e 15x10.5 ect.
the tyres on my wheels at the mo are 255's. (the spare has got 265 for some reason?)

so what width would it be in inches to hold a 255 tyre on it?

p.s had a look on the actuall wheel itself but it has no markings on it?

got a pic of your wheels? If they're standard alloys they're more than likely 7", some steels are 6.5" , or if they're aftermarket they could be 8" or even 10"s maybe (for some reason i'm remembering a (lowered?) surf on low profile tyres and deep dish wheels, but i might have got the wrong person?)

it's literally just the width you're looking for so could just get a tape measure out for a rough idea.

Cant imagine a 255 sitting too happily on a 10" rim though...

        yeah im that guy.

        [/IMG]

just got the tape out and they seem to be 9 inches.(and yes i took into account the slight overhang of the rubber)
but need a exact measurement tho if im to order new tyres.
was kinda hoping some1 would say..."a wheel that will hold a 255 tyre would be x amount of inches wide"?

saying that it doesnt matter anymore as they are clearly not 10's or 12.5's ect. which is what i need to run 35+ yres on it

if you can find a good tyre fitter then they may fit the 35's onto 8" rims for you.Just looking at that spare then they could be 10".Was this truck on ebay not so long ago as there was one on there the same as yours and it said in the ad they were 8"

cheers new surf. i just tried it but it only works out the total tyre circumfrence in inches not the width in inches.
                    i.e 255/15/60 = 27 inches
                    not the width.

                        cheers m8.
just did it and it says that tyres between 7-8.5 inches will fit it.
                        thats right isnt it?
anyway still too small so they will have to be sold!

                          255 = 255mm = 10.04"

but that's the tyre width, not the rim width

if the tyres are just over 10" wide those rims look somewhere between 8 and 10"

i reckon they'll put up to a 35x12.50 on them, any wider you'll be in danger of rolling the tyre off the rim regularly, so a lot of places won't fit them.

will they go on without any probs then?
                            cheers.

you will need to find a tyre fitter that will fit them on 8" rims as they don't like to fit the bigger tyres on the narrower rims much but they should fit ok tho.I got a mate down here with 35's on 8" steel rims and they look ok
