  • Which Diesel to buy

    Hi all.

Im very new to all this so i maybe asking silly questions.

Ok by the end of the month im going to be looking at buying a surf with a budget of no more than £1500, and running on vegi mixed.

I have no question about the vegi mixed as its all been explained in the sticky topic.

What i do want to know is which diesel engine to go for and why and what i should be looking out for.

I cant see it really going off road. It will go down the farm track most days and will do the field when full off fishing gear. I will do around 5k miles.

    Cheers

As you from my old home town let me be the first to say welcome mate,
get a 3lt if you can for that money, much better than the 2.4's judgeing by mine, and fuel consumption aint that much difference, happy hunting
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

ssrg is top spec but other models can and are spec'd up to that level, but remember its a 2 tonne truck it aint ever gonna be economical, you will get 25mpg approx

basically for the money you got you will only get a 2nd gen thats from 89 to 95 years with the drop down tailgate.
There is only 1 difference on the models and thats the ssrg has the recaro seats. The japs added all extras from new so there isn't much difference in them really

you can get a good bargain on ebay as most of the trucks are going so cheap.Just make sure you go to view and give it a good looking over.If the truck is to far for you to look at then just put a thread up on here and ask someone to look it over for you and get some pics.
You can always make a offer for what you can afford on the trucks in the for sale section here and you may be surprised that you may get a good deal aswell

just look for what you would normally look for with any motor. When test driving take the truck for a good hard run and the try the 4wd out on loose/slippery surface to make sure it all works ok.You can't use 4wd on these 2nd gens on the road unless its icy/snowing as you'll get transmission wind up as there's no centre diff.
if any work has been done on the truck then make sure there's receipts etc for it all.
make sure all windows operate ok,check air con is working, make sure there's no noises that you think shouldn't be there. You can always ask someone on here to go look over the truck with you if you want
