      For what it's worth I got a reply !!

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Top Gear' on 20 July.

We acknowledge you felt 'Green Laning' was misrepresented and have raised your concerns with the production team.

The item was described as a task to see if they could combine greenlining with fox hunting.

The programme has to have a degree of dramatic licence and it was within the usual remit of the programme to inform and entertain.

Please be assured, however, that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

      Regards

I got the same standard reply.

            I still have an issue!

The fact that their own email states 'combine greenlaning with foxhunting', so they themselves obviously think greenlaning is about wheelspinning through fields.

Oh well, back to the gearbox!

What really gets on my nads is the fact that the BBC seem to think any old shonky English, either written or spoken, is acceptable, these days. Greenlining? Arsewipes, they are.

Maybe that's the bit we missed, maybe they were participating in the little known sport of greenlining, as opposed to the mildly more common greenlaning?

I missed the show btw, so when i watch it on dave in about 10 years time i'll pass comment on it.

Email 2 on the way back ! (sorry for posting the original email again, but it's to illustrate their mistake, and in context)

Reading this reply my first question is 'WHAT is green lining?' or was your reply treated with a 'couldn't give a damn' attitude?

If you meant green laning I would point out that this broadcast was grossly irresponsible and detrimental to drivers who enjoy the countryside.

If you can kick your researchers into life you will see that thanks to the NERC bill there are VERY few green lanes that can now be driven.

Thanks to your broadcast either drivers will be seen as hooligans, or the hooligan element will now try out wheel spinning and tearing up the countryside.

If you think that that the idiots don't do that kind of thing, investigate the recent history of the Tennyson Trail on the Isle of Wight - a classic example of a green lane lost to idiots.

I invite you to digest that and then reply with a personal letter rather than a mailshot special (yes I know of others who have had the same email)

                    Disappointed with your reply

                    Trevor Wilson

                      Top man Trev.

To be totally honest, I can see Tony's viewpoint perfectly well, and do largely agree with it. You can't eat your cake and keep it. However, this also does fall outside the scope of most of their other tat as the bobble hats are actively trying to close greenlaning down completely, so it didn't exactly help any. A small mention by the BBC saying that it was filmed on private land would have helped immensely. It's blatantly obvious that it was, but truth was never something which zealots tend to pay too much attention to in their quests.

Personally, I find Top Gear and their stunts completely naff these days, so I can be completely condescending from all viewpoints without running the risk of sounding hypocritical.

Yeah, it wasn't like that in the old days with William Woollard and Chris Goffey, and petrol was thrupence a gallon.
