I had a search, read through the threads but still wasn't clear what the situation was.
If its definately when the vehicle was first registered, then great. The cynic in me still thinks we're gonna get screwed just as soon as they find a way though.

Lets be honest, the Surf is not an eco friendly vehicle.

You've not offended anyone. This question comes up all the time though (like the "What's the red button for" one) and each time we get to the same place, it's (currently) £185, anyone paying more is being fleeced.

To end these annoying 'Road Tax' threads that pop up every now and then.

The law as it stands today 11 July 2007, states that the new tax bands only affect vehicles first registered after 2001. If anyone with a 1st, 2nd or turd gen Surf is paying more than £185 per year for road tax, it's a mistake. Challenge it.

I want to hear whatever update gpz1100 has to give us thanks very much - if you're not interested then nobody is forcing you to read it. However, let me know if you have some priviledged position on the forum that allows you to dictate subject matter and I'll know to withhold my renewal subs.

Sorry to everyone but i seem to have stirred up a bit of a storm with my last post!!!
I can understand that the same issue repeated gets too much. The point of my post is that DVLA seem to have changed the rules by the back door. They say the rules have altered,but are unable or unwilling to give me a copy of the new rules. They seem to say that if they hold an sva that shows Immisions they will put you in the Diesel car tax class dispite the year that the Surf was first reg in Japan.
I think this is a way of gaining more tax revenue from a small group of vehicles with very little hassle,or comeback.
Hopefully by Raising this here we will be able to find out what is going on and challenge DVLA, before they "AMEND" any other rules.
Once again sorry if i've upset anyone that was not my intention.

On a more reflective jacket note I thank you for your info on this matter and will watch with interest ! this still smacks of central government still not communicating national policy I might have to add this to our 'red tape' teams work schedule ...they won't like it but hey what the hell get em off their fat arses and do some digging for a change !

secondly will they be using EEC approved shovels? will their be fully documented procedures for said digging ? will they have planning permission ? will there be sufficient warning signs to protect the public / chavs ? will there be protective barriers round the hole ? will they be paid at least the minimum wage ? will ethnic minorities be given the chance to dig ? will the diggers be wearing reflective jackets and all other safety equipment as specified by the HSE ? will the diggers be offered maternity/paternity leave ? will you loose heart reading this string of crud ? will GWH recover from his bout of nude bacon frying ? will Max Moseley invite us to his 'parties' ? will your chewing gum loose it's flavour on the bedpost overnight ?
