  • Its Gone

After five years of surf ownership the truck has gone, with high fuel prices and a poor paid job in teaching the thing had to go, but its not all bad news i bought a deisel mondeo which the wifes got and i got her two and half year old bmw 320 m sport so i think i can live with the pain until i see a surf on the road going out to do some off roading. i'll still be around on the forum to see everyone enjoying there surfs.

That sucks Colin, but I understand completely. I'm looking into buying a 'commuting car' to cut my fuel bills.

its a hell of a differeance in pay from laying bricks to teaching it not all teachers get 30k plus.

Sorry you had to get rid of the Surf Colin, i reckon ours will sit on the drive a lot more in the future

And yes a Key stage two teacher here is lucky to get £21k

I was hoping the wife could do better than that ! then I could retire and have a part time job at the museum !

Colin, sad news mate, no more drunken nights and BBQ's at Weardale then? I'd just like to thank you and Amanda for organising my first off road outing last summer, (when I was a humble Copycat and couldn't put my tent up!). I'm hanging on to my Surf as a weekend driver as I still love the old girl to much to get rid of her.

Aye as said mate, their no good for daily running these days unless your rich!
if i had to use mine for commuteing etc either it'd have to go or i'd get meself a cheap runner, everytime i go to the garage it's sodding gone up again

I just don't get these threads. If you can't afford to buy a cheap commute for work and have to sell the surf for 2k to fund it then fine.

But if off roading or moddifing like Ian, Vince, Rod ect is your thing, then spending less than a tenner a week to insure, tax and MOT for the year. Is very much at the cheap end of hobbies.

Particularly if the replacement is an M series BM! I would hazard a guess that maintaining and fuelling it aint gonna be that much cheaper than the truck.

£30k aint bad for part time too.

you write its not much cheeper but after having had the surf for five years to see the increase in fueling it was heart breaking.
aready had the bmw, the truck was costing me the best part of 80 quid a week to fill up i'd soon put the extra money to a relible car than give mr brown that in diesel money, it only cost about 35 quid in the bmw. i had bought a third car but keeping three on the road was just costing to much.

as i said before it all comes down to filling it up, i had a comunting car but it kept breaking down so somthing had to give, insuring 3 cars taxing and running them is a dear do. Plus i was not offroading much so it defeats the point of having a 4x4.
