when you say solid is it the pressure in the system? The pressure it runs at can be quite high it will tell you on your rad cap.

Was the water pump replaced when the head was done?

Solid top hose is fine it is supposed to be as the rad cap is doing its job .Pressure in the system upto rad cap setting lowers the boiling point of the coolant. Its when it pushes out into expansion bottle you got problems .

Will you use proper English instead of that b@stardised shorthand and word dropping. It took several reads of that paragraph to understand it correctly.

Top hose should get quite firm in normal use. Did it pull the excess back from the expansion tank as it cooled? Was the coolant level okay under the cap once the engine had cooled down? If the system was over pressurising, it would most likely have popped a leak somewhere, so I wouldn't worry too much, personally, provided everything appeared okay as mentioned above.

Btw, if the rad cap has no markings or anything on it, replace it as a precaution.

When the expansion bottle overflows, to be precise. T'was a tad misleadingly phrased, Rick.
