There is a rubber gasket available for this type of connector, and a sealing cap for when its not in use.

Personally (so as not to offend) I think its possible to make a neater more professional job - not necessarily an imitation Dakar truck - with this, rather than poking the wires down the side of the door, which, again personally, I think could look a bit naff and be unreliable, and potentially less weatherproof than a suitable gland / connector fitted properly in the roof.

Just my opinion, and I'm sorry if my joshing touched nerves.
