just got a phone call from the sister in law,she lives in iowa.last night a tornado touched down in a town called parkersburg, and destroyed it,it then turned east and headed for her town of new hartford.
her husband is on the tornado watch but refused to leave her as it was so close, she said some fellas just turned up in her house and told them to get down in the cellar,so they all did. when they came back up their barn had dissapeared and the back of the house had sutained damage,it turns out that 5 people died in parkersburg and 2 in her town ,new hartford...glad we are visiting out of tornado season

Yeah it can be mad out there this time of year. Glad to hear your family are OK.

I parked up under a freeway bridge once cos hail the size of golfballs was coming down hard enough to smash windscreens and dent cars! (Texas)

And we moan about a bit of rain!

turns out that the two dead in her town were found by her husband.the fire service is a voluntary thing in her town and he is a volunteer.they were DAMM lucky, first time a twister has hit them since the late 60's.
i said last time we visited that we wouldnt go back in the summer,as it was unbelievably humid,we are going at christmas instead(when there is 6 feet of snow instead).the wife has just this minute got off the phone to them, they are running on a genny.the devestation is pretty much complete..................

Was that the one on the news yesterday? caught some farm workers out in the open, they certainly get over there, we're famous for moaning about the weather when in fack we're probably one of the lucky'st country's in the world weather wise, they still talk about "that" storm now and that was what!! twenty years ago glad your familys ok, ya need a dam good cellar liveing there,
a house bulit on hydralic rams that ya could lower into the ground when a twisters about (or raise up if a floods likely) would be handy

no chance now........they got no barn !!!!

my bro in law is still out after 24 hours or so,he called and said he reckoned the barn was destined to become the biggest bonfire his town had seen

we are all just very relieved they are all ok,its been a bit fraught
