the government already read/listen in to emails and telephone calls. This is done in-conjunction with the NSA from america.

ISPs are or are in the process of being forced to maintain data for set periods and any specific words like bomb, al-qaeda and other words like these are identified for further investigation.

Damn it, suppose this will be read now using those words

I always thought it was China and Singapore who had the most surviellance but I think its been proved that its the good ole UK.

Thats all well and good until you get corruption in government or the kind of incompetence that leads to C&R discs getting 'lost' or computers left laying around.. A competent and fair government is one thing, All and sundry bad sorts is quite another....
        it's in me shed, mate.

Roughly 70% of all crime is carried out in the home, it therefore makes more sense to have the surveillance cameras and eavesdropping equipment inside the home, rather than in the street where there is comparatively little crime. Would you be happy if that was the case?

I've never subscribed to the "If you don't do wrong you have nothing to fear" argument, it's a bit lame.

Agreed, but remember the CSA was set up for a good reason (and still is a good reason) , but they had computer problems (big style) they lost a bit of information along the way and the computer system alone cost millions and still doesn't work, many people have been over charged and many single parents still haven't got a penny from them.

And this is a well financed goverment set-up scheme. just like they will do for the central data base

I thought this was discussing interacting with the outside world - I see what you say but that was not what the original post was about. We are on camera most of the time in work an it doesn't bother me as I have nothing to hide. That was my point - where as in the home is something else. So get off your soap box.

I'm not on a soapbox and I didn't bring up the "Nothing to hide" thing.

I'm also not on camera where I work because my employer trusts me and has no real reason to watch my every move. Your employer, on the other hand, clearly mistrusts you for some reason

You missread my reply an turned it round. I never mentioned being on camera at home but mearly stated that I had nothing to hide in the fact about what I said on a telephone or computer. And for the record the cameras are not there to watch me but for security - it is suprising what people do to food.

I think that only applies to the new ones , the ones with the RFID chip, doohickey thing. Rumour has it that a tap with a hammer sorts that out. Its no problem for immigration as they they can still scan the barcode bit as with the older passport. So Im told anyway

I wanna apologise for seemingly being cranky last night.

Just didn't seem to come out right so I gave up.

I dont have an issue with DNA stuff, It can be very useful! But i wouldn't want it to become a case of "your DNA was found, your guility" no questions asked.

Loads of crimes are commited that never see closure due to lack of evidence etc. Whilst Police brutality isnt an answer i think they need more power.

I dont know how deep the rabbit hole goes regarding people watching us an our activitys. One thing that concerns me is, I know a few people who are my age an are hell bent on politics. They run for the youth group cr*p.

Problem is, These people are total flucking whankers!!! In the highest calibre. They are people i would happily bury under a flowerbed at an old folks home without that much concern!! These are the people that Tomorrow we will be saying "yes Sir, No Sir, three bags bl**dy full of leaked info Sir"

                          Politics, Its all just tw*ts!!

Lots of scary stuff on here !

The one thing that gives me hope is that our wonderful government keeps paying people to produce databases with everybody's details on (DVLA, NHS, HMRC, DSS etc) and they all have different versions of the same demographic data.

The fact that they can't work out that they could do the job with just a single database and save themselves a fortune leads me to believe that there's no way they'll be a significant risk to freedom in my lifetime !

Oh yeah Rod, my 15 year old daughter's a member of the Hampshire County Youth Council and looks highly likely to be going into politics ! Those of you that remember the former Margaret Roberts had better watch out - Katie makes her look like an amateur already and by the time she's got a couple more years experience under her belt she'll be giving Gengis Khan a run for his money !

Life is too important to take seriously !

Actually, "they" do want to put everything on one single database, but unfortunately, "they" don't appear to know what they actually want, or what they want it to do, or what the 'benefits' will be.
Computing professionals refer to this as either a; a gravy train, or b: a debacle of biblical proportions just waiting to happen.

Oh, it will be completely secure because of biometrics.

Except that it won't because the biometric enrolment will be farmed out to private sector, to reduce the headline costs, and the biometrics won't actually be used, due to cost.

Oh, and I almost forgot - the flat fingerprints used aren't admissible in court because, guess what? The failure rate is unacceptable for legal purposes.

ZanuLabour is the only party still pushing this through - it was bulldozed through Parliament on the back of a large, baa'ing majority, and rammed through the Lords by the threat of invoking the Parliament Act.

Do you want to be number? Because if this goes through, you will be your legal identity, and that identity will be the property of, and defined by, the state (go read through the legislation).

"Government should fear the electorate, not the electorate fear their government."
                              Peter

I am not a number. I am a FREE MAN!

Sorry if my comment caused any offense. It really wasn't written very well.

Im just generalising the people that i know who are into it. They seem to call meeting after meeting to just disagree an achive nothing yet they dont see it as nothing.

The people i know are BAD people, end of full stop.

Sorry for coming across as a pr*ck mate, I do honestly hope your daughter is succesful in her choice an is able to get into a position where her voice will be heard.
