On another forum..(BMW) a guy claims to have tow started an old merc diesel taxi with an auto transmission...he claims 'it took a while and there was a cough lots of smoke but it started'
sorry guys i seen it done years ago when i worked in the docks as a nipper
could not believe my eyes but they did it towed the car at speed and it started
Who's going to donate their truck - we can do a Brainiac and settle this once and for all.
I was a project engineer at the Borg Warner plant in Port Talbot where they built the old three speed boxes. I think we finished off on the Type 65/66.
The Aisin Warner transmission was developed by BW and Aisin and based on a lot of the old technology, but with all the nice things like overdrive and lock up convertor. So from what those guys are saying on that forum it may work!!!!!
I wouldn't try it myself.
I'd be concerned about trashing the valves and solenoids through lack of fluid pumping around.
we tried doing exactly that to stein on salisbury plains when the starter motor packed up as some of you guys would remember, danno towed me not a wise move, then sledge.but the bugger wouldnt start though,so bio and myself took the starter out and stripped it down and got it to go.
