I heard that it was possible, but you had to be really shifting.

Later on I heard that now way do you tow an auto far or fast otherwise you could cause damage.

As far as I am concerned, I will pass on bump starting a surf

The info regarding the Merc may actually have been correct, according to this:

I've heard that you have to tow the vehicle over 30mph and then pop it in drive
I wouldn't try it unless it was

It can be done, but you need to be doing at least 45 mph and locked down into first gear. Not recommended though as at can do a lot of damage.

Who's going to donate their truck - we can do a Brainiac and settle this once and for all.

I was a project engineer at the Borg Warner plant in Port Talbot where they built the old three speed boxes. I think we finished off on the Type 65/66.

The Aisin Warner transmission was developed by BW and Aisin and based on a lot of the old technology, but with all the nice things like overdrive and lock up convertor. So from what those guys are saying on that forum it may work!!!!!

                        I wouldn't try it myself.

I'd be concerned about trashing the valves and solenoids through lack of fluid pumping around.

I love the way someone specified the exact speed.

we tried doing exactly that to stein on salisbury plains when the starter motor packed up as some of you guys would remember, danno towed me not a wise move, then sledge.but the bugger wouldnt start though,so bio and myself took the starter out and stripped it down and got it to go.
