Just on a slight aside, apparently the best type of acid to use, (if you can get hold of it), is phosphoric, as from what I was told, that doesn't attack the good metal at all.

Btw, this is second hand info, so one of our resident chemists would be better placed to say whether it is indeed true or not.

isnt vinegar ascorbic acid(like a fruit based thing as it was once wine,and sugar going through an atomic number change) but the proof of the pudding and all that.......

mind you as dawn french once said "if you put a cow in a glass of coke it wont be there in the morning"

would probably be even better if you used the clear vinegar instead of that brown English stuff... might stain if you leave it too long??
