Goodbye to my England , So long my old friend

But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane

In Brussels it’s scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected; staff do as they're tol d
They must not teach children about England of old.

When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away over the sea
We're the English from England , let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted- Shout it out loud.

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - we want OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

It's one thing to be part of the European continent, that's just a matter of Geography.

It's another thing to be part of the European Union (which is what most people are talking about when they say we're not part of Europe), that's a matter of Dignity, Philosophy, History, Politics, Pride etc.

For instance Norway is a European country, but is not a European Union member.

The Union Jack is the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Oh dear, we're not going down that road again are we?

I'm proud to be English, the Scots are proud to be Scottish, the Welsh and Irish are proud of their respective nations.

I work with people from all over the UK, one of my best mates grew up in the Gorbals in Glasgow. I don't care where people come from, if they're decent folk that's all that matters to me.

Just to be slightly fussy - It's only the Union Jack when flown from the Jack Staff (flag pole at front of a ship).
When flown on land it is the Union Flag (i.e. Flag of the Union)

I have to agree with previous posters. If 'we want our England back' we would do well to start with using our flag, not the flag of the United Kingdom.

I think it's a bit pathetic really. If you want to say you're English, just say so. No-one's stopping you and no-one's going to take offence. I tell people I'm English when they ask (I have a bit of a strange accent....).

I learnt Shakespeare at school and we were played Vaughn Williams and Britton in music lessons (yes, it was a state school). This stuff is just nonsense to be honest.

If we wanted an 'independent' England, that would mean dissolving the Union. Fine by me, but it was kind of our idea in the first place so I can't see why we can whinge about it.

I am of the old school.

3) I do not class my self as a European but as an Anglo Saxon.
Do you think the French or Germans would put up with the sh**e we have to put up with, they would call for and have a revolution and bring the guillotine out of storage and put it to good use.

I think that this goverment and the world has gone crazy when it is frowned upon to teach about Sir Winston Churchill or have Christian lessons or assemblies in school in case we offend some races. TOUGH

This is Great Britain for gods sake, we ahould be able to shout our pride from the roof tops, what ever happened to free speech, it seems the only ones with total freedom of speech are the supposed "minority groups".

When in Rome do as the Romans do.
GIVE US BACK OUR COUNTRY.
Or PERHAPS WE SHOULD TAKE IT BACK

I don't think I have to state my opinion but ........

I'm proud to be English and I'd like my country back !

Note that this in no way infers any negative feelings towards the Scots, Welsh, Irish and Cornish

I've got a T shirt somewhere with the legend:

"British by birth, English by the grace of God !"

Says it all really
