3.0TD Or 2.4TD Whats Better ?

Hello everyone, I'm quite new to the forum I've been looking to buy a surf for about a month but I'm in 2 minds about which surf to go for the 3.0td or the 2.4td. I have been reading on the forum about the 2.4td head problems and some people saying the same about the 3.0td. And what is the average running cost?

basically go for the 3ltr.it has the more refined engine.more power and the mpg is roughly the same as a 2.4 ltr.

given the 3.0 2nd gens can be found nearly as cheaply as a good 2.4 it's a no brainer really, my 3.0 currently stands me just on £1400 although I've just spent £100 on various bits & bobs to service it and get it through it's MOT....

as for running costs, if you have any fears about visiting petrol stations don't buy a surf, they all have a drink problem but that's not the point, one of the most complete 4x4 packages you can buy for sensible money and cheap to modify

I have a 2.4 at the moment, on which the head has been replaced. My next surf will be the 3.0, just as they are newer!

In mho it all depemds on what your gonne use it for.
If your covering a lot of motorway miles or for towing then the 3.0 is probably the one to go for. Bigger engine for towing and cruises at lower rpm for motorway speeds will return a bit better mpg.
If its mainly for short journeys and the occasional motorway run then the 2.4 will suffice.
If you personally want a bit better performance then go for the 3.0, as for running costs there not much to choose between the two.

It all depends on your budget, if your after a cheap motor then there some good 2.4 on the for sales here with heads done and reliable.

If you test drive the 3.0 ltr first you probably wont bother test drivin the 2.4.

well I drive a 2.4TD simply because they hav soul like popeye said,
and I just love them hehe

But I hav to agree on motorway miles I only do 50/56 miles per hour to get a good return on the MPG. (about 30/40mpg)
I am gonna rebuild an engine soon and to be honest might get a 3ltr again...
(if I can make it fit that is )

so yeah even tho I think the 2.4 is ace u might be better of in a 3.
If u are worried about the consumption get a manual as they are a little better, but even so they still BINGE DRINK..... hehe

Depends on ya Budget n what ya want 2 use it for ... after 6 n half years my 2.4 did amaizingly well (No Head or overheating probs) I'de have another tomorra, but am now a proud owner of a 3.0l

welcome. in my opinion i'd get a burger king. maccyd's is cr@p. also, don't panic.

and it's only 10 minutes more expensive for the donkey phones and the white rain is the hardest to fly. but you could always go walking up a wall with a goose worm. up to you really.
