  • Just gets worse...

Think I've about shaken off the flu, but its left me with a hell of a cough which wont allow me to lie down.

I coughed from when I went to bed at 10pm last night until 6am this morning, keeping myself, Vicki (and no doubt the neighbours) awake. I'm relatively OK when 'vertical' but obviously I'm absolutely knackered! I'm sleeping on the couch tonight so at least Vicki can get some sleep!

I've tried various decongestants, various cough medicines and none have touched this at all. Anyone got any sure-fire cures? At the mo, I'm considering a decent bottle of malt, kill or cure!

For info I am coughing up stuff, but nothing of scary colour or consistency, so I dont think I have any kind of serious infection. I'd just like to be able to get some rest. The doc, as seems the norm these days, was useless and I was in and out in 30 seconds. He did have a waiting room full of 15 year olds with bad cases of pram-face though so it aint surprising he's pushed for time.

My mum always advocated the two hats cure. Put a hat on the end of your bed, get in bed with a bottle of scotch, when you see two hats go to sleep and you'll be fine when you eventually wake up.

Coughing is probably post-nasal drip (snot dripping down your throat). It's hard to shift; get the eucalyptus version of this if you can find it - it's amazing

Alternatively, go for a swim and you should shift some.

I've had that cold for two months so far BTW.

Tried the pillows trick. Cant sleep (why I always fly Club ) and unless I'm pretty much bolt upright, I start coughing.

Think I'll try the Scotch route... at least if it doesn't stop me coughing I wont care!

Tell you what though, it's seriously p1ssing me off now. Done nothing at all this week cos I've got no energy. Just sat watching cr@p daytime TV and feeling sorry for meself! The weather's been great too, and could have got loads of work done on the truck

Like it! Dont have a hat, but I guess any stationary object would suffice

I dont think its nasal - I know that one well as I suffer sinusitis practically every time I get a cold. My nose is bone dry now and has been for a few days. I have a wheezy rattle which seems to be somewhere round the base of the sternum which starts immediately when I lie down.

My favourite trick for this is PROPER Benylin (Not the non-drowsy), a couple of co-codamol (Paracetamol & Codeine) and a large Irish just before bed ......

The medical experts will probably be horrified but my lungs are 20% scar tissue and any cold ends up on my chest and leaves me in the same state as Apache - two days of constant coughing then leaves every part of my body aching !

Life is too important to take seriously !

Well, I couldn't be arsed going out for Scotch, so here I sit high on Covonia and strepsils!

Vicki's gone to bed a red faced, shivering mess cos she's come down hard with the same thing by the look of it, poor thing, and I'm gonna stay down here on the couch so I dont keep her awake. She's gonna need her sleep while she can get it!

I'd use the spare room, but Callum's here at the mo, and of course, Neve is in her own bedroom. Sadly, its the couch or the shed... there's a thought!

Thankfully, apart from feeling a bit spaced out due to the drugs and a lack of oxygen, and this ###### cough, I feel OK in myself now if pretty shattered. Tell you what though, I've had flu before now, including gastric flu, but this whatever the hell it is (the doc said something a bit vicious has been going round here) really hits hard! Stay clear of chez-apache folks!
