  • Kit car......

Anyone on here got a Kit car wasting away in their Garage? I am recently feeling the need to buy an old Dutton or locost (Lotus 7 style). Got access to machinery and am a handy welder/fabricator, so thinking why not!

I have my 200sx up for sale at the moment - so proceeds from this (1200 quid if anyones interested) will be available.

Thought I'd ask - having no luck on Ebay - Keep getting pipped at the post

    Alex.

Ahhh a Dutton. I had an S3 Phaeton about 6 years ago running a Rover V8 with twin Garrett T3 turbos. I built it during my apprenticeship, had a right laugh with it for a few years, then it started eating the gearbox and rear axle and therefore my wallet. It lives in France now.
      Heres some pics of it...

Forgot to add, why not use your 200sx as the donor vehicle? I plan to build a Tiger Cat E1 one day using an S12 donor, I think its the ideal car to use, 200bhp, rear drive, decent brakes, its all there waiting to be used! Better than some w@nky old Sierra base.

              Errrm yep, spot on!
The turbos were off MG Metro turbos as they use a blow through SU set up. I had to use the original carbs on the V8 though as they were handed, so they had to be modified to allow for forced induction.
The noise was fantastic, the V8 sountrack, cherry bomp pipes, 2 turbos spooling followed by the wastegates.......mmmmmmmmm and the Dartford Tunnel.....well you get the idea
Drive train, oh yeah, an RS2000 Escort axle doesnt like 250bhp for too long. And Sherpa gearbox bearings arent really up to much abuse either.
I did do a few track days with it, TBH though it was great in a straight line but the handling was a bit interesting. It was a great A road driver though.

I always think cars are like women, it's all down to taste.

That Dutton Phaeton thing is the most disgusting pile of poo to have graced our roads, I hate them with a passion. The only saving grace of this particular one is the V8 and Cherry Bombs.

                Sorry if I offend

Don't worry, it seems to be something of a habit with you.

                      Really? I hadn't noticed myself.

One thing I have noticed about all of our Scots members, in common with Aussies and Kiwis, is that they tend to be rather more direct and abrupt than the English. I suppose that can offend some sensibilities.

I personally, don't mind it (once I remind myself that they're not English and aren't trying to be rude) and found it quite refreshing when I lived in Sydney for a couple of years. It's actually a far less stressful way of communicating.

                        It's not rust coloured, it's 'Burn't Copper'.

Never been one for pussy footing around issues, I'm the same at work. I'm reknowned for it.

I agre with you Adam, it may appear abrupt and offensive, but it's not meant to be; it's merely direct. Leaves you with no misconceptions about what's just ben said.
