Tyre Width

I am about to get some new tyres for the Surf and although sticking with a 31" tyre, would like to know if there would be any advantage going up to a 11.5" width instead of a 10.5" width?

Can't think of any advantage for on the road use, may be a little less mpg with the bigger tyre. Off road yes they will be better.
