Andy - could you let me know where that is so I can get the code/part number for it and let Lee know, so he can check if he has one? If so, I'll bundle the order up, as I am WFH on Thursday so may get all the bits and be able to change it on the drive and see what happens....

    Cheers!!!!

At a guess, on the transfer box

Wouldn't bother buying bits at the mo unless the sensors are very cheap. Check Vinces diagram, there's a couple of sensors on the transfer box.

I'm searching for the transfer sensors for the truck, and may be able to get my hands on some soon - and I have a gearbox and transfer for a 2.4 in my shed....so I'll look for them on that too.....

So - in the mean time, can anyone tell me (and Supersurf) if the numbers on the 4WD ECU and the relay (labelled fuel pump relay) have any bearing on compatibility or use on 2.4 or 3.0?

This is what I have found looking at my two:

        4WD ECU 2.4 = 3B02
        4WD ECU 3.0 = 3H03
        Fuel pump relay 2.4 = 2N 1 A1
        Fuel pump relay 3.0 = 8N 3 A1

        And Lee has found:

the fuel pump relay numbers on the front are the same as a 2.4 surf, 28380-44030 056700-5960 12v
but the numbers on the side are different my one has 11N -30 A1

the numbers on the 4wd control are 89533-35021 are the same as a 2.4 but the code 3L01 something to do with the ratios maybe ?

Does anyone know what the shorter numbers are?

        TIA

28380-44030 says it's a 'RELAY ASSY, COOLER' on the EPC

Where on the transfer box? I have one in the shed at the mo that I can use as a donor if I need to - so would be good to know what to 'borrow' ...

Physically, I dunno (only seen the wiring diagram), but they'll have wires comin out of em. I reckon the sensors on the 2.4 'box will be the same as the ones on the 3.0 box as they're doing fairly numpty stuff.

Did we ever find out if 4WD can be obtained using the transfer lever?
Forget about the 'shift on the fly' for a minute.

Sorry, we've been out watching Dave Spikey!

And no - I don't think it can be - I put it into L4, drive off, the revs are up as you would expect, but I don't think the 4WD engages - no light on the dash, button in or out on the transfer lever, and yes, the light on the dash does work...I've seen it...

Right then, you need to get both front wheels off the ground, see if the front prop turns easily by hand, switch on ign. select L4 and see if it locks and the front wheels turn.

Or, turn one of the front wheels by hand and see if the other turns with the transfer lever in L4.

The repeat with the button on the lever.

or stick it in lo-4 drive forward a few feet stop put it in P and get out and reach under the truck see if the front prop can be turned by hand. Put it back in 2wd and repeat.
