  • Diesel Leak

got diesel leaking from the front not had a proper look yet but had a quick look when I spotted it yesterday evening leaks when engine is running
had a browse for info last night seems likely to be fuel pump going by posts I looked at
just called a garage that does work on surfs locally they have done the job before and reckon it is quite common what they do is take the pump off send it to a diesel pump specialist to get it refurbed and then refit it and said the last one they did came to about £1000 ! and they would need the car for a week
I asked about just doing the top seals as I had read on here that can be done in situ he said not worth doing as it would probaly leak from the other seals sooner or later and would have to be taken off and done anyway
can anyone please help? what is the best way to tell where the leak is coming from and if it is the top ones would have a go at doing them if anyone can help/give advice as I am not sure what I am looking at!
    cheers

Look at the injector pump, (trace the fuel hose down from the filter), and see where it's leaking. If it's the top seal, just get a seal kit from Milners and replace the top seals. I wouldn't go down the refurb route unless you have no alternative.

I had a look just now and the diesel is coming out quite fast when the engine is running tho it didn't when first started up, moved it about 50 yds and checked again it was running out from underneath had a look under bonnet at top of pump no obvious leak from top
I think I'm looking at the right part! Matt where is the filter located so I can trace the fuel hose down to the injector pump
all and any help would be greatly appreciated also can anyone recommend a good mechanic or garage in Kent area
      cheers

AFAIK, or at least the commonly posted problems, the top seals go first, so check elsewhere before you resort to having the pump taken off. £1000 sounds a bit pricey too. I have heard it can cost around £400 though.

You have to ask yourself, £1000 spent on a 2.4, when you can buy them for that money. Might be better to buy another, and break yours to recoup some costs.

You can get a brand new fuel pump for about £200.00
