The bar on mine is a replacement which the previous owners have had made i think

It fits into the hole (which is above my bumper inside the boot) but is a straight bar so needs modifying so i can turn it!

You can get them from Toyota for £60 odd quid plus VAT

Mine is a bog standard 92 second gen, but from memory i'm sure the socket that takes the hook end is directly above the centre of the underslung spare, so maybe yours has been modified at some point!
Not working 2moro so i will try to get a better look and maybe some measurements or pics and see if they help you!

My 2.4 didn't have the tool kit, but I found that I could turn the thing relatively easily by hand.

There does seem to be something odd going on, it's not hard to use the winder correctly normally. You get the hooked bit, insert it through the hole in the bumper, rest the hook in the slot (it doesn't hook in at all) and turn the handle, and 'Roberts your aunties live in lover' the wheel comes down.

                  Hi All thanks again,

but that can't help ..quoting previous comments and reposting the pic.

(mechanism between the exhaust and the spare wheel the hook doesnt connect and turn the cylinder, no room above the wheel )

perhaps I will find out 1 day

As I said, the hook doesn't actually hook in at all. It simply sits in the slot, and is held there by you not pulling it out.

Does the slotted cylinder move even slightly if you try and turn it by hand? It may be that it's seized up from corrosion.

Yes it moves and move the bracket. the hook in the slot doesnt activate anything. and doesnt reach anything if you push it further. . .

As Tony said, some trucks have the mechanism on the wheel some above the exshoust,

No, you're right, it doesn't activate anything. But Once it's in the slot, turn it, and the wheel will lower itself.

                          Thanks

                          Ok sorted out Thanks..

On My truck The stick needed to be turned 45 right instead then straight and pushed in the mechanism thru the bumper, I had to remove something prevening it after the slot ..now I can relax
