  • Help - not starting....

    Hi

Haven't been on for a while... but here goes...

About 2 weeks ago my battery died. It was quite gradual with my car not starting properly and then one afternoon it was just completely dead. I replaced the battery the next day (the old one was a 70 amp and it was recommended that I put a 100amp battery in which I did). All went well in the first week and she started like a dream! This afternoon I noticed that she didn't take as quickly and when I got home I switched the engine off and tried to start again after about 30secs and it's dead!!! It sounds exactly the way it did when the first battery died and this is a BRAND new battery!

    What could be causing this?!?!

    Any help appreciated!

Did you get a dash warning light about battery? does your battery dash warning light work?

Alternator output might be the problem, worth checking.

Altenator? If the truck wouldn't start from hot on a new battery then it would appear it is not charging. Try a multimeter on the battery when the engine is running to see if it is charging.

(EDIT) Bluddy hell! 3 replies before I had finished typing!

              Nothing is on at all.

Also, there is no warning light on the dash for the battery. What would be the reason for it not charging?

My recent syptoms were very similar.
The bracket that adjusts the alternator tension on the belt had come off ( the bolt had sheared off.)
Its almost certainly the alternator, get your hands in and check the tension on the belt etc,
                      Good luck
