I was round at my mate Bill's house to borrow a grinder and tucked away in his garage he had a very nice MK2 Escort shell he is preparing with incredible attention to detail, it will be pretty special when it gets finished.

He has made a jig which allows him to rotate the car easily to gain access for welding and fitting parts.

i love escorts and I have owned a few MK1's and 2's. Some of Bills old cars in fact.

mates boss has an orginal mk1 mexico with just 34k miles on it, car is ace, another mate had a mk1 which he spent a fortune on, near £10k on a Dunnell engine but got so p155ed off at the cost of rusty 2nd hand parts sold the lot to build a Skoda hill climb car (yes really!)

You could do that to a Surf pretty easy, just need to unbolt the body and lift it off of the chassis.

they all have mk1 escorts round my way. the uk's 1/4 mile record in a NA tuned 2.0 is a family friends mk1 escort.
the car has so much torque it wheelies - you will have to youtube for the videos.
tbh i prefer the mk2's as they are more square, and i once had a mk2 rs2000 but i never finished it and sold it for more than i bought it after about a month of ownership
at the time of me having the mk1 XR2, all my friends with the mk1 escorts and anglias all had 1700 crossflows, as did i - so my front wheel drive easily kept up
