wrong section i know but need quick reply...coz it's too dark out there to still be faffing with a truck!

have no memory of the 1st gen coolant capacity. so far it's only taken 6 litres??? this can't be right surely.

2nd gen 2.4 is 9 and i thought these engines were the same. so brainy folk, enlighten me coz i want to go to bed and not have to do this in the morning.

    thank you!

(btw searches don't read terms like 1st or 2nd so it don't help there)
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

its air locked, takes a lot more than that, undo a heater hose to let some air out.

thats what i done but 6 litres??? i'm thinking a block somewhere? peeing me off coz i was hoping to do this tonight so i didn't have to take time out to do it in morning.

the heater and heater hoses were blocked. i've spent all day flushing the system, disconnected rear heater altogether (may account for a smaller capacity but not 3 litres worth) put all new hoses on, reflushed etc etc. just worried there may be a bigger problem lurking elsewhere.

Did you flush the rad from both ends?

flushed everything every possible way. got alot of gunk out and did all this before putting new hoses on coz i didn't want old gunk caught in new hoses. still flushed the system twice after with new hoses on and just trying to get it filled tonight.

would an airlock really answer for 3 litres?

Is the heater set to hot?
Is the cable operated valve on the bulkhead working?
              Thermostat stuck shut?
Have you tried adding coolant with the engine running and the truck parked on level ground? (not facing down or uphill)

Fill up to the brim, and leave the cap off overnight. Any air should have worked it's way out by morning. Put the cap on the drivers seat so you won't forget it's off!

i'm leaving it until saturday when i can do it in daylight. got a total of about 7.5 litres in it. now heater not blowing as hot as it did during being cleaned out and flushed, so possibly an air lock?!?!??!?!?!?!?! who knows. left cap off all night and undone heater hoses to release any air, then ran system without cap on today - no air bubbles. so might drain it all again and see if another flush reveals any more cr@p in system.

also checked the turbo cooling pipes today, they seemed all clean too. there's definately no leaks and no blue or grey smoke out exhaust, plus doesn't lose water so i don't think its a head situation. got to be a block somewhere or an airlock surely? anyway feck it til saturday now!
