  • To IT hardware gurus....

I'm trying to build a new PC - and am really stuck....

I have an Intel DG33FB board, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, OCZ Platinum PC26400 DDR2 800 SDRAM and trying to install Vista Home Premium 64-bit

I can get as far as Windows in loading files then either:

    a) I get a screen full of green or coloured lines
    b) Locks up and hangs
    c) BSOD

I've tried changing the memory settings manually as per OCZ forum, and either get three long beeps, or the same issues as above....

Can anyone here shed any light on this???? Please??????

Is your graphics card up to Vista? So older ones wont work correctly with Vista.

          Sorry...

Should be, I think the board is specific for Vista (Windows Vista Premium Certified - on the box)

I can't get it to BSOD on me now.....the VGA in on board - I may disable it and plug in the PCIE one and have another go

Just a quick look, seems to say OCZ Platinum PC26400 ram needs 2.1v the default voltage for DDR2 ram is 1.8V .

I guess your Motherboard is set at 1.8v which could make the ram unstable, I also guess because its an Intel board you may not have adjustment of your ram voltage? (or do you?)

It's not your fault DDR2 ram is meant to only use 1.8v, OCZ are not sticking to the JEDEC standard.

Being a PC it could be something else though

Cheers!!! I've been looking through some OCZ forums and kind of got the same conclusion - so I'll sod off to PCW tomorrow, buy some 1.8v (if they have it of course) and send the OCZ stuff back to eBuyer......

I'll leave it for tonight and carry on plastering the kitchen wall that just crumbled when I took the tiles off........poop!
