Come on guys pass the hat wtf!
Were talking of an increase from 19p to 38p a week lets just shut up and pay up.
I mean after all it's our site. Who could do without it?

my twopenneth (and it will be quick before I get sacked!)

Why not "pass round a hat" at off road events, no pressure to pay, no "charge" just contribute where you can. as tesco point out "every little helps"

Certainly remind newbies of the benefits of joining

    up the subs a bit.

Make it clearer/ bolder on the membership stuff.

and pester roughtrax/milners. We do recommend them enough times!

    back on 'ed

Sorry I have done my usual and read the first two pages and then skipped to the end so if this point has been raised already appologies.

I came across this site a couple of months before I bought my Surf now over two years ago. Its only because of this site that I have still got the Surf and I can do most of the mechanics on it. The money I've saved buying stuff off the parts section and the advice I've been given on the tech section has payed for the forum subs over and over again.

I gotta say I think that this forum is probably one of the best I visit on a daily basis.

Just thought I would add by bit.

The Volkswagon forum I go on routinely asks for contibutions in the region of £25 to £30 and in fairness you don't get anymore for your beans.

    Keep up the great work.

    Okay for what its worth.
Lets focus on informing all who join about the subs to keep the site alive.

Now lets cut to the chase
I admire Matt and everyone like him who will support and defend the freedom of the NET both by words and action (his site for example) this after all was it's inventors intention he also makes no money from the NET.
But we need money to run this site that is a fact. So lets do whats required
double the subs to £10 per six months or £20 for the year which ever makes for a better cash flow.

I don't belive anyone on here can not afford 38p per week.
If you can't then I'm sad for you however, my advice would be turn off the computor you can't afford the electric.

I don't think it's right that Koi and Lucky have to sub the Forum from their own pockets.
I don't like the idea of closing sections, as I think it will change the whole feeling of the forum.
I think charging for events will open you up to loads of red tape and complications, which will put a stop to most of them.
I also would like to have reliable servers, especially as it only like to crash when I'm working on the truck.

I think the best compromise, that would annoy the least amount of people, would be to increase the subs by a reasonable amount (I'd pay cause I know it's worth it, and I'd miss the family feeling here), advertise the subs more (I know it's been said but I think it needs to be done), and if there is a short fall of funds announce it, cause I think you'd find that people would contribute.

I'd just like to add closing the tech wouldn't effect me as I've got my blue star, but I've just started to get to the bit where I can help others (hopefully accurately) and that's giving me a warm (smug) feeling inside.

This Thread shows why its a good idea to flag the blue star, John was happy to pay once pointed in the direction.

AND Just because you have alot of disposeable income don't think we all have .......i have got to do alot of overtime to get the finances inplace to attend

Please do not force me to withdraw from the wales event

Don't want to charge for the tech section
    Don't want to have advertising
    Don't want to increase subs

I guess the only thing is to expect Koi and lucky to carry on paying the £30-£40 per month out of their pockets?
    Exactly.

If the place needs cash, it needs it or its going to go somewhere less reliable, then everyone is bitchin another slow pages and frequent breakdowns.

You don't think Koi and Lucky havn't looked for cheaper hosts? They are losing money on it, its in their interests to find a cheaper place if poss.

Having closed tech forums isn't my idea of ideal. but we have a sellable rescourse, so it makes sence to try and use it.

    My opinions..........

Closed sections, OK if its just a members lounge type place to hang out and have fun. Tech sections? Not so sure. Someone who googles "Surf head cracked" will get linked here, find they have to pay, so go back to google and try the next link. So 1/ they won't join anyway. 2/ not how many extra people you'll get paying money anyway.
Best way is like we have now, Get people here and having fun, then hope the contribute.

Up the subs, Possible, and reliable. You know the numbers, don't think more than a handfull of people will be petty enough and throw thier toys out the pram and leave, especially if we're sensible about it.

    Extra Contributions.
Very possible, and doable, Get suppliers to donate small prizes, and have a raffle at offroad events, or just monthly on the forum. every have the chance of getting something, any cash from the tickets goes towards forum expences. Or just a collection box by the bbq.

Adverts. Possible, annoying if pop ups and happening at the top of the screen. maybe a few more, but leave you open to rubbish hassles when people are bitching about a supplier, and they are an ad subcriber. Not sure how many more are even possible.

    Outright begging.
Look guys, we need £X this year and see what happens. I reckon enough people would come through.

You can skip the last three or four pages. They're pretty mundane and boring.
